Tips to Keep You Healthy for Life

  • Don’t smoke. For help on how to quit smoking, visit womenshealth.gov.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Move more. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise as many days as you can.
  • Eat a variety of foods for a healthy diet.
  • Get enough calcium and vitamin D every day.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink it in moderation. Don’t drink if you are pregnant or underage. Learn the signs of alcohol misuse at familydoctor.org.
  • Don’t use illegal drugs or misuse medication.
  • Talk to your health care provider about any health concerns or issues you may have.
  • Have a reproductive life plan.
  • Get routine exams and screenings. Check out womenshealth.gov for the most recent recommendations.
  • Make sure you get all necessary vaccinations.
  • Make some time for yourself; try to reduce the amount of stress in your life.
  • Sleep well. Try to get seven to nine hours of sleep every night.
  • Apply sunscreen every day and avoid the sun during midday when its rays are strongest.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Wear a seatbelt and drive safely.
  • Take a multivitamin with 400 mcg of folic acid every day!
